Great Blog! I just stumbled upon it while looking for a good image of leafy spurge to use in a blog about this invasive...wanted to write about the plant in horse pastures. Any experience with horses eating this plant? Or...training them to eat it as well?

Hi Kathy
Great webinar
You have peaked my curiosity in your method. I keep a small flock of sheep in Maine and have some trouble with Bracken fern and Nut sedge. pasture improvement and rotational grazing have made a difference but I am now thinking some additional training to the sheep could help the process.

I think you book is going to be the next one on the reeding list!

Thanks for the feedback and info Kathy! I'm on Day 3 of doing this with my Highlands and so far so good. It is pretty funny to be out there trimming the multiflora rose like I'm trying to improve each bush ! But, very rewarding to see the cowies munching it down out of the bins. I'll keep ya posted.

This is a great news to read! We (Kansas) are having issues with Multiflora Rose. One of two way that they are treated; chemical, burning or both in one season. Keep it up Kathy! HUZZAH! HUZZAH! HUZZAH!

I had Greg and his Dad feed the ends of branches with thorns and all. The idea is to have something the cow can put in her mouth when eating from a tub, but to keep it as similar as possible to the plant in pasture.

I've found that cattle and goats both bite off the same size branches, but cattle then go on to break down larger brush than goats can. A study done in Wisconsin shows that cattle can also do a great job when it comes to removing brush as part of a forest savannah rehabilitation project. Here's a link to information about the project on my website: http://www.livestockforlandscapes.com/brush.htm

You'll especially like that they used Highland cattle for this project.
